Nuclear outages outside the US

Which of 104 operating units in France, Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland and Czech Republic are offline or below full capacity right now, from the feeds their grid operators and utilities publish. It is checked hourly. The US has its own daily report on US daily status.

Two different claims share this page, and each row says which. Measured is what a unit actually produced in the latest hour (Ontario). Declared is an outage or limit the operator has announced (France, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland and Czech Republic). For a declared row, "no outage declared" is not a confirmation that the unit is running.

Not covered: Germany, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, Japan, South Korea, China, India and every other country. Their operators report through channels that need a registered account or are not published as open data, so a unit missing from this page is not evidence of anything about it. Ontario covers Bruce, Darlington and Pickering; New Brunswick's Point Lepreau is not in that feed.

The record so far

Loading…

Counted from the first hourly check we recorded, and nothing before that is inferred, so a short record says little. A check where a feed failed is left out rather than counted either way. For France, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland and Czech Republic the counts are of declared outages, so a unit can be offline without appearing here if nobody declared it. Changes of state also appear in the alerts feed.

How to read the rows

  • Offline on a measured row means zero output in the latest hour. On a declared row it means the operator has announced zero available capacity for now.
  • Reduced on a declared row means an announced limit, with the megawatts still available. On a measured row it means output below 85% of the unit's net capacity, which includes ordinary coast-down before a refuelling outage.
  • Planned and unplanned are the reporter's own classification, and a "delayed start after maintenance" is sometimes filed as planned.
  • Units shut down for good are ignored even where a feed still lists them as an outage, in some cases until 2050 or 2099.
  • Great Britain's Sizewell B reports two turbine-generators; they are added together. Heysham's reactors are matched to the feed's unit numbers in order, because the messages do not name the reactor.
  • If a feed fails, its last good data stays on this page with its own date and a warning. It is never shown as running normally.
