Has reactor-building concentrated in fewer vendors?
In the 1960s, 6 vendors had units starting construction, Westinghouse Electric Company the largest at 40%. In the 2020s, that was 7 vendors, China National Nuclear Corporation the largest at 39%.
Counted by the decade construction started, since that is when a vendor actually won the work. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) summarises concentration in one number: it would read 10,000 if one vendor did everything that decade, and falls as the work spreads across more of them. Units whose vendor could not be resolved to a company are left out of the vendor split, though they still count toward the decade's total; a decade with fewer than five resolved units is left off the table as too thin to read.
