API reference
The live feeds behind this site's own status pages, documented so they can be called directly. No key is required and every response sends access-control-allow-origin: *.
These are live, not archival: they hold recent state and a rolling history, not the full historical record. For the underlying bulk dataset — the fleet, fuel chain, ownership and company data — see the data exports instead. For whether a given feed is currently up to date, see data freshness.
| Endpoint | Cache | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| /api/status.json | ~1h | US reactor-by-reactor status, from NRC Power Reactor Status Reports: current output, a short history per unit, and a fleet history. |
| /api/status-events.json | ~1h | Every US unit state change (derate, restart, offline) the site has recorded. |
| /api/health.json | 1 min | Whether the US status collector is running on schedule, counted in business days since NRC does not publish on weekends. |
| /api/news.json | 30 min | World Nuclear News headlines and the publisher's own teaser text. Nothing here is written by this site. |
| /api/news.xml | 30 min | The same headlines as an Atom feed. |
| /api/news-health.json | 5 min | Whether the news poller (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) is running on schedule and the feed is still moving. |
| /api/outages.json | 5 min | International reactor outage snapshot: measured output for Ontario, declared unavailability for Great Britain, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, France, Czechia and Switzerland. |
| /api/outage-history.json | 10 min | Hourly outage-check history since recording began. Add ?slug=<reactor-slug> for one unit, ?days=1-400 to change the window. |
| /api/outages-health.json | 2 min | Per-source health for the outage feeds: last success, last failure, unmatched codes. |
| /api/quakes.json | 5 min | Earthquakes from USGS currently matched near a listed plant, magnitude 4.0+ within 200 km. |
| /api/quake-history.json | 15 min | Long-run earthquake history near every plant since recording began: counts by magnitude band per plant. |
| /api/quakes-health.json | 2 min | Whether the hourly earthquake poller is running. |
| /api/alerts.json | 5 min | A single merged feed of reactor outages (outside the US) and large nearby earthquakes, newest first. |
| /api/alerts.xml | 5 min | The same alerts as an Atom feed. |
Notes
- Every response is GET, unauthenticated, and JSON except the two .xml Atom feeds.
- A *-health.json sibling exists for every polled feed above; each reports status ("ok" or "degraded"), problems, and the timing of the last run.
- Where a source has failed, the JSON says so rather than silently omitting it or reporting it as normal; check the relevant *-health.json or the note field in the response itself before treating a value as current.
- For international outages, "normal" from a declared feed (Great Britain, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, France, Czechia, Switzerland) means no outage is declared, not that operation is confirmed; only Ontario is a measured reading.
- Cache times above are server-side (cache-control: max-age); poll no more often than that.
