Cigéo

repository France planned

Cigéo is a repository facility operated by Andra in France. Its capacity is not publicly disclosed.

France reprocesses, so what Cigéo would take is vitrified waste rather than intact fuel assemblies. The construction licence application went in during January 2023, the regulator gave a favourable opinion in December 2025, and a public inquiry is scheduled for the second half of 2026. Commissioning is not expected before 2050.
