Nuward
Nuward is a light water-cooled reactor design from Électricité de France rated at 400 MWe. The developer is engaging a regulator but has not submitted an application.
Europe's flagship SMR, and a case of a design being restarted rather than advanced. EDF abandoned the original integral concept in 2024 after customer feedback, moving to what it called existing and proven technology, and the output changed from two 170 MWe modules to a single 400 MW unit. Conceptual design was due to be finalised by mid-2026 for a product marketed in the 2030s. EDF also withdrew from the British SMR competition.
