BREST-OD-300
BREST-OD-300 is a liquid lead-cooled reactor design from Rosatom rated at 300 MWe. Nuclear construction has begun.
The only lead-cooled reactor under construction anywhere, and the most ambitious closed-cycle project in the world: the Seversk site is being built with fuel fabrication and reprocessing modules alongside the reactor, so used fuel would be recycled on site rather than shipped. Lead does not burn or react with water, which removes sodium's worst failure modes, and it is corrosive and freezes at 327 °C, which introduces different ones.
